Sergey Katyrin, President at the Russian Chamber of Commerce and Industry
“Oil and gas is an industry that is one of the pillars of the Russian economy, an integrator in both domestic and foreign markets. Tens of thousands of companies supply the industry with their products. The oil and gas industry was one of the first to be targeted by the sanctions. Nevertheless, the industry itself, those who work in it, and those who manufacture for it are coping with these challenges.”
The official opening ceremony of Neftegaz 2024 was attended by Sergey Katyrin, President at the Russian Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Yury Shafranik, Chair at the Committee of the Russian Chamber of Commerce and Industry on Energy Strategy and Development of the Fuel and Energy Complex, Genady Shmal, President at the Union of Oil and Gas Producers of Russia, Viktor Ivanov, President at the Russian Chemists Union, Maxim Fateev, Acting Director General at EXPOCENTRE AO, Rodrigo Baena Soares, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Federative Republic of Brazil to the Russian Federation, and Jesus Rafael Salazar Velasquez, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela to the Russian Federation.
Genady Shmal, President at the Union of Oil and Gas Producers of Russia
“Today’s main trend is technology. If we do not deal with new technologies, there will be no production volumes. I am convinced that the intellectual potential that our oil workers have, the people who are leading our oil and gas companies today, allows us to look to the future with confidence.”
Honoured visitors noted the increased interest in the exhibition and the conference programme, which was filled with relevant events covering everything from production issues to problems of import substitution and support for technological sovereignty.

The conference had three sections. The first one was dedicated to industry trends. Valery Yazev, First Deputy Chair at the Russian State Duma Committee on Natural Resources, Nature Management and Ecology, noted that the topic of the conference was extremely relevant. The fundamental problem not only in the oil and gas industry, but also in the oil production industry is to increase its efficiency at all stages from geological exploration to deep processing. The final oil and gas product, according to the speaker, is formed by service companies: the cost of technology and the provision of services for geological exploration, production, well workover, and further processing and logistics. All these stages form the cost of the product.
Oleg Zhdaneyev, Head of the Centre of Competences for Technological Development in the Fuel and Energy Sector at the Russian Energy Agency of the Russian Ministry of Energy, spoke about the state of the oil and gas industry and the fact that its well-being was based on achieving technological sovereignty of related industries.
The second section was dedicated to digitalisation and automation, and the third one to innovations. Speakers reported on import substitution and import independence in the field of control and measuring instruments and automation, production of alternative fuels, disposal of waste from rotational camps and production fields, and the benefits of separate waste collection.
NEFTEGAZ.Live also hosted the Conference on Safe Work in the Oil and Gas Industry. Topical Issues in the Field of Technical Regulation, Industrial and Environmental Safety of the Oil and Gas Sector, and the Panel Session on Sustainable Development in the Oil and Gas Industry: the Role of Youth (watch the broadcast).
The Conference on Technological Development in the Valve Industry. The Way to Sovereignty and Import Independence. Staffing Needs of the Industry was held on the closing day on the NEFTEGAZ.Live platform. Industry experts engaged in the development and production of valves acquainted the audience with innovations in valve manufacturing and spoke about how import substitution in this industry was progressing.
Genady Shmal, President at the Union of Oil and Gas Producers of Russia, opened the conference and said that all representatives of the industry would have to do serious work to ensure that the valves produced met the new requirements and demands. He also pointed out that the technological sovereignty of the Russian valve industry depended on the two most important factors: resources and competent professionals.
The attention of the audience was drawn to the reports of sponsors and exhibitors on the following topics: Production of Russian Equipment for the Oil and Gas Industry. Experience of the ALTAILESMASH Plant (watch the broadcast), Modern Trends and Import Substitution as an Effective Tool in the Area of Uninterruptible Power Supplies for Oil and Gas Companies (Systemtechnik) (watch the broadcast), Generation for Oil and Gas Companies: How to Choose the Optimal Solution (Aggreko Eurasia) (watch the broadcast), Solutions for Oil Sludge Processing Based on the Best Available Technologies under Sanctions Restrictions (Tobol) (watch the broadcast), Analytical Chemistry Solutions for the Oil and Gas Industry (Focused Photonics Inc. The fact that the exhibition and the forum are held as a single platform emphasises the importance of consolidating the efforts of the government, business and experts to address the strategic objectives of the Russian oil and gas industry. The events have become an effective platform for sharing experience, strengthening partnerships and developing joint initiatives to ensure the technological sovereignty of the Russian fuel and energy sector.
